Reflections and Conclusions
While I had not gone to the meeting prepared to take notes for webpage publication, I believe the material here is at least approximately correct. A number of other meeting members are much more knowledgeable than I and I hope they will contact me with corrections additions and deletion. Given the potential expense and the relative rapidity with which we should probably proceed, I felt it was more important to make at least approximate correct material available and make corrections as needed.

The following points were made during the meeting:

  1. The Meeting House is stable and weathertight as it stands now.
  2. The Meeting House needs extensive structural repair within the next few years.
  3. The current tarp coverings of the east wall should be replaced before winter.
  4. It would be possible to basically replace the clapboards and postpone much of the work' but this is structurally and economically unwise although it would be safe.
  5. The nature of post and beam construction is such that we need to replace the large decayed pieces with similar materials rather than new pieces of "better, more modern" materials.
  6. The kind of work needed is best done in relatively warm weather hence, if we are going to do anything this summer/fall, it is to everyone's advantage to make the decision soon.
  7. The assessment from Heritage restoration is available here as a Word 2003 document
  8. There will be Called Meetings this summer to seek a way forward with this problem.
