The Saylesville Meeting House was built on land belonging to Eleazar Arnold, a prosperous farmer and tavern-keeper. his house, built in about 1687, still stands about a quarter-mile away. The land was well situated above a pond and next to the dirt Great Road, linking the Meetinghouse with Providence. | ||||||
The area has changed considerably since Eleazer Arnold's time and even since the left hand above photograph was taken, but the Meeting House has remained much the same although the grounds are a bit more manicured. |

Early Friends traveled to meeting on horseback and in carriages. A rough mounting stone, which still stands, was built of rough fieldstone. At one time, a large carriage house stood next to the Meeting House. Two historical cemeteries are adjacent to the Meeting House. |
